Author of the novel WHEN YOU LOSE CONTROL
Melissa Dorval's debut novel, WHEN YOU LOSE CONTROL, was published in December 2023 by Spinning Monkey Press.
Dorval has had her poems, short stories, and articles published in The Offering, The Lowell Connector, and The Shirley Volunteer. Her latest short-form essay, Gambling, was featured in the inaugural issue of The Sixpence Society Literary Journal, and her poem, When I Saw My Vision, was featured in issue four of The Creative Zine. Her poem, Viento Silvestre, was published in the 2023 Quabbin Quills anthology. Dorval's latest piece of microfiction, Annora, was published by the New Dawn Arts Center in their exhibit, The Long Dark Winter, along with her poems Winter Dance Party 1959, and Music Box Figurines. In February 2023, her poem, On a Lapidary Landscape, was published in the Creative Connections ‘Art is Poetic, and Poetry is Art’ exhibition. Her two latest poems, Ladybird's Metal People and Janis were published in "Words from the Burg."
Dorval is one of three founding members of The New Dawn Writers Group in Ashburnham, Massachusetts, and has been a member of The Authors Guild since 2022.
In 2009, Dorval graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Massachusetts - Lowell, where best-selling author, Andre Dubus III, served as her mentor.
When she's not writing, Dorval enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, reading, and cats.
